Ingredients

  • 1 c. lowfat milk
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. shortening plus 2 tbsp.
  • 2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 c. cool water
  • 1 c. very hot water to dissolve yeast in 3 tbsp. yeast
  • 4 teaspoon salt
  • White flour

Method

  • Scald lowfat milk.
  • Add in shortening, sugar and stir till dissolved.
  • Add in whole wheat flour and beat rapidly.
  • Add in dissolved yeast and cool water.
  • Mix well.
  • Add in sufficient white flour to make a soft dough.
  • Let rise till double; punch down and turn over in greased bowl.
  • Let rise till double again.
  • Shape into 3 loaves.
  • Let rise and bake at 350 degrees.
