Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. cake flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 2 or 3 sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. walnuts
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
  • Melt shortening and chocolate together.
  • Beat eggs well; add sugar gradually and beat thoroughly.
  • Add chocolate mixture and blend.
  • Add flour and mix well, then stir in nuts and vanilla.
  • Bake in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan in moderate oven (350°) for 25 minutes for moist brownies or 30 minutes for cake-like brownies.
  • Cool in pan, then cut in squares.
