- 1 medium onion
- 1 Tbsp. oil
- 4 garlic cloves
- 3 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. paprika
- pinch of cayenne pepper
- 1 c. tomato juice
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 lb. ground pork
- 2 slices white bread, torn into small pieces
- 2 lightly beaten eggs
- 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. hot pepper sauce
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Coarsely chop the onion.
- In a large skillet warm the oil over high heat.
- Add the onion, garlic, chili powder, salt, paprika and cayenne.
- Cover, reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring often, until the onions are softened but not brown.
- Remove the skillet from heat.
- Stir in tomato juice and set mixture aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, combine beef and pork. Add the bread, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, hot pepper sauce and onion mixture and mix lightly.
- Place mixture in a 9 x 5-inch pan.
- Place the mixture into form.
- Bake for 55 minutes or until meat is done.
- Stand for 10 minutes.
