Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 1/2 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. double-acting baking powder

Method

  • In a large mixer bowl with electric mixer at medium speed, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in egg, milk and vanilla and almond extract until well mixed.
  • Wrap and refrigerate until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Roll dough onto lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
  • Cut out dough with star-shaped cookie cutter.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 10 minutes or until lightly browned around edges.
  • Cool on wire racks.
  • Ice and decorate as desired.
