Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 c. cocoa
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 2 heaping Tbsp. plain flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 Tbsp. vanilla

Method

  • Heat 1 cup of milk and butter; dissolve sugar, cocoa and salt in remaining 1/2 cup of milk.
  • Add well beaten egg yolks.
  • Pour this mixture into hot milk and butter and cook until stiff, using double boiler or if open pan is used, stir constantly.
  • Line deep pie tin with rich crust; pricking with fork and bake until a delicate brown.
  • Put cocoa filling in crust and frost with whites of eggs, well beaten.
  • Sweeten and flavor to taste.
  • Put in oven until slightly brown.
