Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 12 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons shortening, melted
  • 23 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 12 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 34 cup evaporated milk

Method

  • Cake: Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
  • Add shortening, milk, and eggs.
  • Beat 2 minutes.
  • Stir in cranberries.
  • Bake in buttered 9 inch square pan at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
  • Serve with hot butter sauce.
  • Hot butter sauce: Melt butter in double boiler.
  • Add sugar and milk; mix well.
  • Cook over hot water 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot over cake.
