Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 cups halved cranberries
  • 3 3 tablespoons rum or 3 tablespoons vanilla
  • Hot Butter Sauce
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup whipping cream

Method

  • Cream butter,sugar and eggs.
  • Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk to creamed mixture.
  • Add nuts and cranberries.
  • Bake cake in moderate oven (about 350) in a 9x13 inch pan for about 30 minutes or until it springs back when touched.
  • Serve small pieces with hot butter sauce.
  • Hot Butter Sauce: Combine ingredients and bring to a boil over moderate heat,stirring constantly.
  • Let bubble one minute.
  • Add cream (not whipped).
  • Reheat but do not boil.
  • Add flavoring.
