- 1/2 lb. good hamburger
- 1 tsp. sherry
- 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. brown gravy syrup
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 Tbsp. cooking oil (in which to cook filling)
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/4 lb. celery, shredded
- 1/4 lb. onion, shredded
- 1 1/2 lb. cabbage, shredded
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. m.s.g. (Accent)
- 1 can bean sprouts
- 1 can water chestnuts, chopped fine
- 1 can mushrooms, chopped fine
Method
- For filling, mix hamburger with sherry, cornstarch, pepper, sugar and brown gravy syrup in a large bowl.
- Place oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add salt and ginger, then the celery and onion.
- Cook about 3 minutes.
- Add mixed hamburger to skillet, stirring constantly, until the hamburger is in fine pieces.
- When hamburger is cooked, place mixture in a colander and drain off excess liquid into a pan.
- Spread meat mixture out flat to let cool.
