Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Sazerac rye whiskey
  • 1 ounce Benedictine
  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 splash simple syrup (page 154)
  • 1 lemon wheel, for garnish
  • 1 lime wheel, for garnish
  • 1 brandied cherry (see page 36), for garnish

Method

  • Pour the whiskey, Benedictine, juices, and syrup into a mixing glass.
  • Add large cold ice cubes and shake vigorously.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with the lemon, lime, and cherry.
  • Dominant Flavors: whiskey and citrus on the nose
  • Body: medium rich mouthfeel
  • Dryness: medium, perfectly balanced
  • Complexity: medium
  • Accentuating or Contrasting Flavors: honey, oak, and herbs poke out of the citrus blast
  • Finish: short, fruity citrus
