Ingredients

  • 7 oz. macaroni
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. plain flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 c. whole milk
  • 1 c. grated sharp Cheddar
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped onion, very fine
  • 1 1/2 c. English peas, drained
  • 1/4 c. sour cream
  • 1 c. cottage cheese
  • 2 c. diced ham, cooked (chicken or other cooked meat may be substituted)

Method

  • Cook macaroni according to package.
  • Melt butter and stir in the next three ingredients.
  • Gradually add the milk and cook, stirring until thickened, then boil for about 1 minute.
  • Add the next three ingredients and mix with the macaroni.
  • Grease a large casserole dish.
  • Put about 1/2 of the mixture in the dish.
  • Pour the sour cream and cottage cheese on top of this, then add the rest of macaroni.
  • Add diced meat and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle with the Cheese Crumb Topping.
