Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. margarine
  • `1 1/2 c. chopped onions
  • 1/2 c. chopped fennel
  • 1 packet instant onion broth and seasoning mix, dissolved in 3/4 c. warm water
  • dash of white pepper
  • 2 (1 oz.) slices French bread, toasted
  • 1 1/2 oz. reduced fat Swiss cheese, shredded

Method

  • In 1 quart nonstick saucepan, melt margarine; add onions and fennel.
  • Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until onions are translucent, about 2 minutes.
  • Add 1/2 cup water, the dissolved broth mix and pepper; bring mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and let simmer until flavors blend, about 15 minutes.
