Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 1/2 c. shortening
  • salt
  • vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. nutmeg
  • cinnamon
  • 1 pt. eggs
  • 1 qt. buttermilk
  • 1 1/4 lb. raisins
  • 9 c. flour (1/2 cake, 1/2 all-purpose)
  • 3/4 oz. baking powder
  • 1/2 oz. soda

Method

  • Cream sugar, shortening, salt, vanilla and nutmeg together. Add cinnamon, eggs, buttermilk and raisins; mix this into the above mix.
  • Sift flour, baking powder and soda into previous mix. Just mix until the flour ingredients are fully mixed but do not overdo.
  • Extra mixing tends to toughen the cookie.
  • Makes 8 dozen large size cookies.
