Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2/3 c. butter or margarine, divided
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 2 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Method

  • In a large bowl, combine cocoa and baking soda.
  • Blend in 1/3 cup melted butter.
  • Add boiling water.
  • Stir until well blended. Stir in sugar, eggs and remaining butter.
  • Add flour, vanilla and salt.
  • Stir in nuts and chocolate pieces.
  • Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 35 minutes.
  • Cool.
  • Makes 3 dozen. Can be iced or powdered.
