Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 2 - 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 c. milk, slightly warm
  • 1 egg for brushing
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 pkg. saffron

Method

  • In a large bowl dissolve yeast in warm milk.
  • Melt butter and add to mixture.
  • Add salt, egg and crumbled saffron, and 2 cups flour.
  • Knead dough on floured surface for a couple of minutes until smooth.
  • Add more flour as needed.
  • Let dough rise in warm place for 30 minutes.
  • Punch dough down and knead dough again on floured surface.
  • Form into long roll, cut dough into 24 pieces. Roll each piece into a 10 inch string.
  • Form pretzels and place on a baking sheet.
  • Let rise 20 minutes.
  • Beat egg and milk and brush pretzels.
  • Bake at 425° - 450° for 8 minutes.
