Ingredients

  • 1 3/16 cups dark chocolate at least 70% cocoa
  • 3/4 cup margarine
  • butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 4 eggs
  • 5/8 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 5/8 cup walnuts chopped

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 180C.
  • Line a rectangular cake tin (15 x 25 centimeters approx.) with parchment paper.
  • Melt the chocolate in the microwave on medium power, for 1 minute at a time, and stir until smooth.
  • In a bowl, mix the butter, sugar, and maple syrup.
  • When the mixture is smooth and creamy, add the eggs, one at a time, stirring continually.
  • Add the melted chocolate and mix well.
  • Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and nuts.
  • Mix all the ingredients together and pour into the cake tin.
  • Bake for 20 minutes.
  • The surface should appear cracked and uneven.
