Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 c. chopped celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. ground sage
  • 1/4 tsp. dried thyme
  • 2 Tbsp. parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp. vegetable broth mix
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, unpeeled and chopped
  • 6 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
  • 1/2 c. water

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  • Add onion, celery and garlic.
  • Saute until tender. Remove from heat and sprinkle spices and broth mix over onion mixture.
  • Stir to blend. Add apple and bread cubes. Toss stuffing, adding water gradually until bread is just moistened. Add more water, if a moister stuffing is desired.
  • Place in a lightly oiled 1-quart baking dish. Cover and bake 30 minutes.
