Ingredients
- 1/2 c. soft butter or margarine
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- pinch of salt
- 5 c. sliced tart apples
- 3 Tbsp. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Method
- Mix together the flour, sugar and salt.
- Cut in the butter. Set aside 3/4 cup of this crumbly mixture.
- Press the remainder of this mixture into a 9-inch pie pan.
- Combine the apples, 3 tablespoons flour, 1 cup sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Arrange in the pie shell.
- Bake at 425° for 20 minutes.
- Then sprinkle with the reserved crumbs and continue to bake for 20 to 30 minutes longer until browned.
