Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/4 c. chopped celery
  • 2 1/2 c. fresh or canned tomatoes
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 4 c. cabbage
  • 1 c. soft bread crumbs

Method

  • Cook beef in shortening until brown.
  • Add onion and celery; cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add tomatoes, salt and pepper.
  • Bring to boiling point.
  • Alternate layers of cabbage and beef mixture in buttered 2-quart baking dish.
  • Top with bread crumbs.
  • Bake in preheated 375° oven for 40 to 45 minutes, until done.
  • Serves 6.
