Ingredients

  • 2 lb. venison, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 lb. bacon, diced
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 3 onions, sliced
  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms

Method

  • Use a heavy kettle and heat bacon bits.
  • Add deer meat and saute with paprika until brown on all sides.
  • Add 3 or 4 cups boiling water.
  • Stir occasionally to keep meat from sticking. Cook over low heat for 2 hours.
  • Add potatoes and onions during last 30 minutes of cooking time. Remove meat, potatoes and onions. Keep warm.
  • Make a thickening of about 3 tablespoons flour and broth.
  • Stir into juice.
  • Add meat, mushrooms, potatoes and onions.
