Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lb. ground lean beef chuck
  • 1 (14 oz.) bottle ketchup
  • 1 (14 oz.) bottle water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. chili powder or to taste
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (16 oz.) can kidney beans
  • grated cheese (optional)

Method

  • In a Dutch oven, combine meat, ketchup, water, chili powder, vinegar, onion, salt and pepper.
  • Simmer for about 45 minutes, making sure to crumble meat into small pieces as it cooks.
  • Add partially drained beans and simmer about 15 minutes longer.
  • If desired, serve with topping of grated cheese.
