Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. hamburger
  • 5 med. onions
  • 7 celery stalks
  • 5 med. carrots
  • 5 med. potatoes
  • 1/2 c. dry parsley
  • 1 quart. tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp. long grain rice or possibly 3 tbsp. barley
  • 3 quarts. water
  • 2 tbsp. salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes

Method

  • Approximately 4 hrs before serving, cut up vegetables and brown hamburger in a kettle.
  • Drain off fat.
  • Add in 1/2 onions to meat with 3 qts of water.
  • Cover and simmer about 2 hrs.
  • Add in remaining ingredients and simmer for 2 hrs.
  • Serve with garlic bread and large green salad.
