Ingredients

  • 3 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. lard
  • 3 c. flour (self-rising)
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Combine apples, raisins, water, brown sugar, white sugar and lard in a large saucepan and cook 5 minutes.
  • Cool completely. Sift the remaining ingredients in large bowl.
  • Add apple-raisin mixture.
  • Blend well.
  • Add 1 cup walnuts or pecans.
  • Pour into greased and floured pan, 9 x 12-inch and bake for 1 hour at 350°, or until cake is done.
