Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon anise
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • 1 large bottle Guinness Stout
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup seedless raisins
  • 1 cup candied fruit peel, optional

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan.
  • Mix the melted butter and the honey together.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients.
  • In another bowl, combine the egg, Guinness Stout and vanilla.
  • Pour the egg mixture into the center of the dry ingredients, and mix well, while adding half of the honey and butter mix.
  • Add the raisins and mix until incorporated.
  • Pinch off pieces of the dough approximately the size of lemons and roll into smooth balls.
  • Evenly space the buns in the greased baking pan, and place in the oven for 1 hour.
  • Remove from the oven, and brush with the remaining honey butter mixture.
  • Cool and serve.
