Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 2/3 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp. almond flavoring (optional but delicious)
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/3 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 to 1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts

Method

  • Cream together the butter, brown sugar and sugar.
  • Add the egg and beat.
  • Add the vanilla, almond flavoring, flour, salt and baking soda; mix.
  • Add the walnuts and mix well.
  • Shape into a roll; refrigerate.
  • Slice off thin pieces, about 1/4-inch.
  • Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350° for about 8 minutes.
  • Cool on rack.
  • Makes about 3 dozen.
  • They freeze very well as dough or as cookie.
