Ingredients
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 c. all-purpose flour (white, whole wheat or half and half)
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. milk
Method
- Heat oven to 450°.
- Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt.
- Stir with fork or mix with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
- Stir in milk until dough leaves side of bowl (dough will be sticky).
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface.
- Knead lightly 10 times.
- Roll or pat 1/2-inch thick. Cut with floured 2 1/2-inch cookie cutter.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake until golden brown (10 to 12 minutes). Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
- Yields 1 dozen biscuits.
