Ingredients
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. sweet milk, warmed slightly
- 1 oz. baking ammonia
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. oil of lemon
- approximately 3 or 4 c. flour (enough to make a stiff dough)
Method
- Preheat oven to 400°.
- Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Dissolve ammonia in milk. Add sugar mixture. Add oil of lemon. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough.
- Knead well. Roll to approximately 1/8-inch thick and cut into squares.
- Place on cookie sheet and bake at 400° until lightly browned on bottom (watch closely). Recipe makes a large batch.
