Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 1 large green pepper (optional)
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. salad oil
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 1 c. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 tsp. salt

Method

  • Shred cabbage and place in large bowl.
  • Slice onion and pepper; grate carrots.
  • Place over top of cabbage.
  • Sprinkle sugar over raw vegetables (do not stir).
  • Bring vinegar, salad oil, dry mustard, celery seed and salt to boil.
  • Pour over cabbage while hot (do not stir).
  • When cool, refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight.
  • Stir well to blend before serving.
  • Drain off liquid before serving.
  • Will keep a week or more in refrigerator.
