- 1/4 c. vegetable shortening
- 2 c. finely chopped celery
- 5 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped or 3/8 tsp. instant minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 (14 oz.) bottle hot ketchup or tomato sauce
- 4 medium onions, sliced
- 2 to 3 chopped carrots
- 5 tsp. salt
- 1 (14 oz.) bottle ketchup
Method
- Melt shortening in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add onions, celery, garlic and carrots.
- Saute until onions are golden.
- Add ground beef.
- Stir and cook until meat is browned. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and hot ketchup. Cover and simmer 20 minutes.
- Drain off.
- Cool.
- Put into five 1 pint containers, leaving 1/2 inch space at top.
- Cut through mixture with a knife several times to remove air.
- Seal and label. Freeze.
- Use within 3 months.
