Ingredients

  • 2 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables
  • 3 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 c. sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
  • 2 slices bread, torn into small pieces
  • 3 Tbsp. butter

Method

  • Cook vegetables as directed on package until just tender. Melt 3 tablespoons butter, blending in flour (do not brown).
  • Add milk and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Add seasonings and cheese, stirring just until cheese is melted. Place drained vegetables in a greased 1 1/2-quart shallow casserole dish.
  • Cover with sauce.
  • Toss bread in remaining butter and scatter on top.
  • Bake in a very hot oven at 450° for 10 minutes or until browned.
  • Makes 6 to 8 servings.
