Ingredients

  • 1 pkg yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 3 tbs lard (melted)
  • 5 cups flour (or less) to make the dough

Method

  • Mix all the ingredients except the flour.
  • Add flour gradually to wet mixture, kneading as you go.
  • Should be the consistency of a dough that you can easily roll out.
  • Flour board and rolling pin.
  • Roll into small circles about 4 inches across.
  • Fill and seal immediately, pinching and turning the edges.
  • Have hot fat ready (canola, peanut, or safflower) to fry.
  • It's good to have two sets of hands.
