Ingredients

  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoons Ground Pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 whole Red Onion, Sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cups Light Mayonnaise
  • 4 slices Whole-Wheat Bread (toasted)
  • Mixed Greens Or Lettuce
  • 1 cup Crumbled Blue Cheese

Method

  • To prepare the patties: Combine ground beef, garlic, egg, salt and pepper in a bowl.
  • With you hands, mix meat and season well.
  • Divide into 4 equal-portioned round patties.
  • Set aside.
  • To caramelize onions: Heat a medium skillet over low heat.
  • Add butter and melt.
  • Next, add the red onions.
  • Add brown sugar.
  • Toss to combine the ingredients, and then allow the onions to caramelize over low heat for about 20 minutes, tossing occasionally.
  • While the onions are caramelizing, place the patties on a pre-heated grill pan or skillet over medium to medium-low heat.
  • Grill the burgers for about 5 minutes per side.
  • Cook longer if you prefer a well-done patty.
  • Assemble the burgers: 1.
  • Spread mayo over the toasted bread.

  • Next, add mixed greens and add the cooked patty on top.

  • Top with caramelized onions.

  • Sprinkle crumbled blue cheese on top.
