- 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
- 2 cloves Minced Garlic
- 1 Egg
- 1/2 teaspoons Salt
- 1/4 teaspoons Ground Pepper
- 2 Tablespoons Butter
- 1 whole Red Onion, Sliced
- 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cups Light Mayonnaise
- 4 slices Whole-Wheat Bread (toasted)
- Mixed Greens Or Lettuce
- 1 cup Crumbled Blue Cheese
Method
- To prepare the patties: Combine ground beef, garlic, egg, salt and pepper in a bowl.
- With you hands, mix meat and season well.
- Divide into 4 equal-portioned round patties.
- Set aside.
- To caramelize onions: Heat a medium skillet over low heat.
- Add butter and melt.
- Next, add the red onions.
- Add brown sugar.
- Toss to combine the ingredients, and then allow the onions to caramelize over low heat for about 20 minutes, tossing occasionally.
- While the onions are caramelizing, place the patties on a pre-heated grill pan or skillet over medium to medium-low heat.
- Grill the burgers for about 5 minutes per side.
- Cook longer if you prefer a well-done patty.
- Assemble the burgers: 1.
- Spread mayo over the toasted bread.

- Next, add mixed greens and add the cooked patty on top.

- Top with caramelized onions.

- Sprinkle crumbled blue cheese on top.
