Ingredients

  • 5 qt. popcorn, popped
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1/2 c. light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. jelly beans

Method

  • Put popped popcorn into a large, lightly buttered bowl and keep it warm. In a saucepan, combine sugar, salt, water, corn syrup and vinegar. Bring to a boil. Cook over medium-high heat until the hard-ball stage (250° on a candy thermometer). Stir in vanilla. Slowly pour syrup over popcorn, stirring well. Add jelly beans. Stir well. Turn out onto a lightly buttered (large) tray. Cool. Break up to serve or may be formed into balls, if desired. Makes 5 quarts.
