Ingredients
- 1 medium to large head red cabbage, sliced thin or shredded
- 2 apples, peeled in thin slices
- 1 large onion, cut in half
- salt and pepper
- 1/2 c. vinegar
- 1/2 c. sugar (for less tartness, add more)
- 2 cloves
Method
- Soak cabbage in water (to cover) with 1 tablespoon of salt mixed in for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Rinse and drain well.
- Put in a large pot with no more water added.
- Put cloves in onion halves. Add to cabbage.
- Add all other ingredients.
- Let boil, then simmer, covered, for one hour.
