Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 teaspoon nutmeg

Method

  • Cream sugars, shortening, eggs, beat.
  • Add flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg.
  • Alternately with buttermilk in which soda has been dissolved.
  • Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Roll and cut and drop on greased cookie sheet and press down with a wet cloth over a glass.
  • Dip cloth in dish of sugar before pressing cookie.
  • Bake in oven at 350-400 for 8-12 minutes.
