Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
  • 1/2 c. softened butter
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 can any flavor fruit pie filling or 1 (18 oz.) jar strawberry preserves
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Method

  • Combine first 3 ingredients and beat until light and fluffy. Stir in the milk, eggs and vanilla. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add to cheese-egg mixture. Mix until smooth; batter will be stiff. Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan and spread 1/2 of the batter on the bottom. Spread fruit pie filling or preserves evenly over the batter. Dot remaining batter over the top and spread gently. Some filling will show through. Mix brown sugar and nuts. Sprinkle over cake. Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350°. Drizzle warm cake with a powdered sugar glaze.
