Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 5 whole allspice (2 tsp.)
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 4 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 oz. (1/2 sq.) unsweetened chocolate
  • 4 cloves garlic (1/2 tsp. powder)
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • 5 whole cloves (2 tsp.)
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Method

  • In a 4-quart saucepan, add ground beef to 1 quart water.
  • Stir until the beef separates to a fine texture.
  • Boil slowly 1/2 hour. Add remaining ingredients.
  • Simmer for 3 hours.
  • Refrigerate overnight.
