Ingredients

  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 c. cornmeal
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. melted bacon drippings
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 to 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 lb. wieners

Method

  • Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • Stir in bacon drippings.
  • Combine egg, buttermilk and soda; mix well. Stir into flour mixture, mixing well.
  • Cut each wiener into 10 pieces.
  • Dip into batter, covering completely (wooden toothpicks work well for dipping).
  • Drop into 3 to 4 inches hot oil.
  • Cook until golden brown, turning once.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • Great party snack.
