Ingredients

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. vegetable shortening
  • ice water (about 1/4 to 1/3 c.)

Method

  • In a bowl, mix flour and salt.
  • Cut in shortening with two knives or a pastry blender until it is cut into particles the size of small peas.
  • Sprinkle ice water over top of mixture and mix with a fork.
  • Push all the large clumps of flour to one side and continue sprinkling mixture until all flour is moistened and mixed into large clumps.
  • Knead clumps together into a smooth ball. Wrap and chill until ready to use.
