Ingredients
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. molasses
- 2 3/4 c. flour
- 3 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 c. buttermilk (1 c. milk with 1 tsp. vinegar)
Method
- Blend sugar, shortening and eggs.
- Stir in molasses.
- Add flour, ginger, salt, baking soda and cinnamon, alternating with buttermilk.
- Beat well.
- Spread in a greased, floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
- Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
