Ingredients

  • 2 large white onions
  • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms or 2 small cans
  • 1/2 lb. Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 10 or more slices French bread, buttered on both sides
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 or 3 tsp. soy sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  • Saute onions and mushrooms in butter.
  • Butter a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  • Prepare layers:
  • mushrooms and onions, shredded Swiss cheese and French bread.
  • Mix soup, milk and soy sauce.
  • Pour over all. Make a day ahead and refrigerate.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 minutes, uncovered.
