Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 5 to 5 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Cream sugar and butter.
  • Stir in eggs, one at a time.
  • Beat well.
  • Add dry ingredients with cream.
  • Mix well.
  • Chill.
  • Form into large balls.
  • Drop in pan with granulated sugar; coat well. Shape with bottom of cup or glass.
  • Be sure and keep dough chilled.
  • This is the secret, not to roll the dough.
  • Bake in a 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Yields 6 dozen.
