Ingredients
- 2 c. water
- 2 Tbsp. or packet dry yeast
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. oil
- 2 tsp. salt
- 3 c. unbleached flour
- 3 to 3 1/2 c. flour
Method
- Beat together water, yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar.
- Let stand 10 minutes.
- Stir in this order sugar, oil, salt and 3 cups flour. Beat well.
- Gradually add 3 to 3 1/2 cups kneading gently until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise until double (45 to 60 minutes).
- Knead dough again and divide in half.
- Shape into loaves and place into well-greased 9 x 5-inch baking pans.
- Cover and let rise until doubled, 45 minutes.
- Bake at 375° for 35 to 40 minutes.
- Cool on wire racks.
- Makes 2 loaves.
