Ingredients
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 1/4 c. cooking oil
- 2 lb. bag or jar sauerkraut, rinsed and drained well (press down)
- 2 lb. fresh kielbasa (Polish sausage), cut into 3-inch pieces
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1/4 can of water
Method
- Heat oil in skillet and fry onions on medium heat until caramelized.
- Set aside.
- Brown sausage.
- Layer half of the sauerkraut in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
- Then layer half the onions.
- Next, layer all of the sausage, the other half of the sauerkraut and onions.
- Mix the water and soup together and pour over the top.
- Bake at 350° for 1 hour.
- Cover with foil the last 15 minutes.
- Better made early and reheated.
