Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1/4 c. cooking oil
  • 2 lb. bag or jar sauerkraut, rinsed and drained well (press down)
  • 2 lb. fresh kielbasa (Polish sausage), cut into 3-inch pieces
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/4 can of water

Method

  • Heat oil in skillet and fry onions on medium heat until caramelized.
  • Set aside.
  • Brown sausage.
  • Layer half of the sauerkraut in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
  • Then layer half the onions.
  • Next, layer all of the sausage, the other half of the sauerkraut and onions.
  • Mix the water and soup together and pour over the top.
  • Bake at 350° for 1 hour.
  • Cover with foil the last 15 minutes.
  • Better made early and reheated.
