Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sour milk
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. cocoa

Method

  • Cream shortening and sugar.
  • Add unbeaten eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla and milk, alternating milk with flour which has been sifted with salt, soda and cocoa.
  • Add boiling water all at once; stir until well mixed.
  • Bake in three 8-inch layer pans or one 9 x 12-inch sheet cake pan.
  • This is a large, moist cake that will keep well.
  • Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
  • Top with your favorite chocolate frosting.
