Ingredients

  • 5 lb. chicken wings, disjointed, (discard tips)
  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. soy sauce
  • 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1-2 tsp. crushed red pepper (to taste)
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. Chinese Five Seasons spice powder
  • 2 star anise (broken into pieces)

Method

  • Put all ingredients except chicken into medium saucepan and heat over low heat until butter is melted and sugar dissolved. Arrange wings in single layer in large shallow baking pan.
  • Pour sauce over wings and roast in 350° oven for 2 hours, turning wings after 1 hour.
  • Serve hot. Can be made and heated up in oven next day or in crock-pot.
