Ingredients

  • 4 whole chicken legs and thighs
  • 1 Tbsp. oil
  • 1/3 c. soy sauce
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. catsup
  • 1/4 c. dry sherry
  • dash of two of Tabasco sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 4 green onions, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 2 tsp. toasted sesame seed (toast seed in shallow pan at 350~ for 8 minutes, watch closely)

Method

  • Heat oil in Dutch oven and brown chicken on all sides.
  • Mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, water, catsup, sherry, Tabasco sauce, garlic and green onion.
  • Pour mixture over chicken.
  • Cover, simmer 35 to 45 minutes.
  • Remove chicken to platter.
  • Thicken pan juices with the cornstarch mixture.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  • Spoon some sauce over chicken, sprinkle with sesame seed.
  • Serve chicken with remaining sauce.
  • Makes 4 servings.
