Ingredients
- 3 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 3/4 c. butter, cut up
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. fresh strawberries
- 1 Tbsp. whipping cream or milk
Method
- In large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.
- Cut butter into flour mixture until coarse crumbs form. Stir in strawberries.
- Add buttermilk and mix with fork just until dough is moistened.
- Gather dough into a ball and roll or pat into a 3/4-inch thick circle.
- Cut into hearts (approximately 12) and place on greased baking sheet 1 1/2-inches apart.
- Brush tops of scones with cream.
- Place on bottom rack of a 400° oven for 14 minutes.
- Makes 1 dozen.
