Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. butter, cut up
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. fresh strawberries
  • 1 Tbsp. whipping cream or milk

Method

  • In large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.
  • Cut butter into flour mixture until coarse crumbs form. Stir in strawberries.
  • Add buttermilk and mix with fork just until dough is moistened.
  • Gather dough into a ball and roll or pat into a 3/4-inch thick circle.
  • Cut into hearts (approximately 12) and place on greased baking sheet 1 1/2-inches apart.
  • Brush tops of scones with cream.
  • Place on bottom rack of a 400° oven for 14 minutes.
  • Makes 1 dozen.
