Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 c. unbleached flour
  • 3/4 c. wheat germ
  • 1/2 c. dried milk powder
  • 2 Tbsp. sesame seed
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 c. water

Method

  • Combine the flours, wheat germ, dried milk powder, sesame seed, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Stir in the water well.
  • Butter four 1 pound shortening cans.
  • Pour in the batter.
  • Smooth tops.
  • Cover each tightly with foil.
  • Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes or until tops are golden brown.
  • Immediately remove bread from cans.
  • Cool on racks.
