Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 medium apples (Winesap or Jonathan)
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 1/2 to 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. white vinegar
  • dash of salt
  • cinnamon and nutmeg (generous sprinkling)
  • small red cinnamon candies

Method

  • Core apples (do not peel) and cut into sixths.
  • In skillet, melt margarine.
  • Add apples, sugar, vinegar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cinnamon candies.
  • (Candies are for red color as well as flavor.)
  • Cook slowly (mostly uncovered) for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • The apples will have cooked out part of their juices. Stir carefully and occasionally.
