- 1/3 c. white shortening
- 1 c. packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 2/3 c. cold water
- 7 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
Method
- Cream shortening.
- Beat in sugar.
- Add molasses.
- Add water alternately with dry ingredients.
- Chill dough about 1 hour.
- Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut pieces for house from dough. Transfer to cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375° until done.
- Construct house.
- Frost and decorate with candies.
